Poker
8 challengers to the poker tournament. £160 on the table.
Stuart, the bookie and the people's favorite. Chance of winning 21%
Ben, starts well but doesn't have the stamina for the long haul. 15%
Ian, only won big once, is he due a historic victory? 13%
Kris, usually up there towards the end of the game, luckiest man alive. 17%
John, unknown. A dark horse. 9%
Steve, wild card entry, maths brain could help him out but having never played, lacks the big match experience. 14%
Ross, ha, ha, ha. No comment necessary. 0%
James, unknown, likes the odd pound bet however. 11%
I'll try and route out a tacky trophy for the overall winner from somewhere.

X-ray
I went to the minor injuries department at St Barts yesterday to get my fingers checked out. Both hurt in my game last Wednesday.
Luckily neither are broken, the nurse thought that the tendons were probably just damaged. There was nothing she could do about it. Which leaves me a little disapointed. At least if it was broken then it could be put back in place and mended. Now I just have to wait.

What a pain in the neck
Literally, I have a pain in the neck. Nothing serious but I think I slept awkwardly last night and woke up with an annoying pain.
I probably look like Clive Anderson too.

New Years Resolution 2006
Last year one of my new years resolutions was to renew my drivers licence. Being a lazy git, all I managed to do before hand was get the forms and I did that back in February last year.
It's taken me 15 months to finally get round to getting it sorted but I finally went to the post office and posted off the form.
Only a couple of weeks and i'll be able to drive my brother's new Alpha (bought on Saunday). I'm off to St Ives (Cornwall) with April in the Summer so thought i'd better sort it out before then.

Lovely weekend
Friday night was pretty chilled out, I mostly watched rubbish on TV whilst laying on the sofa playing FM.
Saturday I was rudely woken up at 7am with my new computer desk delivery. Steve helped me put up the first half before heading off to play rugby (I’d called off as my fingers are knackered since last Wednesday). Then I finished the rest. I’m quite proud of it really as I’m useless at that sort of thing. Especially with the fact that I only had one screw left at the end, and that was because it wouldn’t actually fit in the hole. I don’t think it’s too important… touch wood.
After that I headed over to the Clockhouse in Clerkenwell where I saw April’s band the Fly by Nights play for the fist time. I was very impressed.
Sunday was lovely too. After lounging around in bed till the afternoon, I went for some comforting macaroni cheese at the Jolly Gardener, bought a lamp shade and a cool poker set.
After that I cooked a lovely roast lamb dish before settling in to watch 24 on the goggle box.
I didn’t do anything major but it was truly a lovely weekend.

Mmm, Mojito
I went along to one of April and Becky's work friends birthdays yesterday. He held it at a cool Brazilian Bar in Holborn. Pretty good evening really. Pretty cheap too. It's happy hour between 5:30 and 7 but we left at just gone 9 and I think we had about 7 or 8 rounds of cocktails. We all chipped in £20 and out of 6 of us we still had £20 left in the kitty.

I'm losing my touch
I've been at Gallagher's for nearly 3 months now, almost finished my probation period so I think i'm pretty much in the know about most things that happen here.
I have just found out that one of the meeting rooms in my building gets turned into a free bar every Thursday night!!!
How did I not know? Why didn't they tell me until now? What's the world coming to?

He's in the money...
Just cashed in my change pot, £94.23, I can only change £82 into full bags though. Not bad for 6 months work really. I expected a bit more as I seem to get less and less coppers, only managed bag 2 bags (£2s worth).

London's great
I stayed over at April's last night so had to use the Northern Line this morning. Upon getting to the station (Clapham South) the queue (rabble) was overflowing out onto the street. There was no way we would have got into the station let alone onto an already crowded train.
Usually between 0 and 2 people can squeeze onto each door way when a new train comes in. The must have been 200+ people in the entrance, let alone down the escalators onto the platform.
As it was a nice day we decided to walk across the common and catch the 35 bus. I used to get this bus when I lived in Kennington so didn't think it would take too long. The bus goes through some of the nicest parts of London, notably Brixton, Camberwell and Elephant and Castle before finally reaching the City.
In all the journey took 1h 50 minutes to travel 7-8 miles.
Don't you just love London? I can't really complain though. I only missed the best part of an hour at work!

New York 2007
Wednesday 7th
Frantic packing and delicious food. Being me, I left the nasty stuff till last so I was left to frantically pack and iron before the big trip to New York. In between that I cooked a delicious lamb loin with roast vegetables. We saw an onion pumpkin (Squash) in Waitrose so decided to get one and see what it was like too. Not bad at all. Then ice-cream.
Thursday 8th
Wanting to get the most out of our time in New York I booked an early flight out to NY that meant getting up at 5:15 to get picked up and driven to Heathrow. We arrived with plenty of time to spare so all was well.
Security was tight and included an extra step just before the gate which included taking my smelly shoes off for them to inspect. Poor girl. Ha, ha! Then we boarded the American Airlines flight and prepared ourselves for the 7 hour flight.
Everything was pleasant and we had loads of room. The TVs in the back of the chairs we a good size and I watched Rocky Balboa and Déjà vu. Both not particularly good but they seemed to entertain me enough and stem the boredom.
We eventually landed and had our finger prints taken before going through customs and grabbing a yellow cab. (A major disappointment was that there we didn’t see any of the old style cabs, I think they have been phased out).
The trip from the JFK to the hotel was traffic ridden but we didn’t care as it was exciting taking in the skyline and the different sights.
Our hotel was good. Great location (one street up from the Empire State in-between 5th and 6th Avenue), pleasant insides and a lovely bed. Struggling to resist the temptation to go straight to bed we ventured out into the busy streets of New York.
One thing I noticed about New York was that the light was entirely different. It seems to be a much brighter bright. Except for one morning for the whole holiday the skies were the brightest blue. That said, I think I experienced the coldest temperatures I’ve ever felt. -15 degrees C (not including wind chill), for the first two days.
We walked down to Greenwich and had a good mooch around, eventually finding a café for a bite to eat and to get out of the freezing weather. Later on we headed back up to the hotel to get changed before eating at the restaurant next to the hotel. Then a well deserved early night.
Friday 9th
April’s 25th birthday! After giving April her present (necklace and earrings made by Harriet) we headed to do a bit of shopping. Or more precisely, April headed out to go shopping, I headed out to get tagged along.
Highlights include, looking round Tiffany’s, getting lunch in Bloomingdales, horse and carriage round Central Park, seeing the polar bears in New York Zoo, ice skating, got a rickshaw then having a look round Time Square.
Saturday 10th
The morning was devoted to mostly shopping but included lunch a Sachs and in the afternoon having a look round the Museum of Modern Art. We then went back to Grand Central to go to a fancy oyster bar that was too busy to go to on Friday.
Sunday 11th
In the morning we went to the Empire State Building, the view was tremendous on the 86th floor (it goes higher than 100 floors up) but I was left feeling a little annoyed by the whole process of security checks and constant annoyance of people trying to sell you stuff. After that we went to Macys then got a cab down to the South of the Manhattan to catch the ferry to Staten Island and get a view of the Statue of Liberty. We then went to a pub back in Manhattan then on to a comedy club then went home for an earliyish night sleep before the flight home the next day.
Monday 12th
Again an early flight, but we made it easily enough, not nearly as much security coming back and a much quicker one at that. It probably took around 6 hours. Then cab back to Putney, ordered a Chinese takeaway then an early night.
Tuesday 13th
Boo, hoo, hoo! I don’t want to be back at work!!!
I really recommend everyone to go to New York. It is a great place with lovely people. They’re really friendly and very helpful. I’m not 100% sold on the whole tipping culture but it seems to work and once we got used to it, it didn’t really bother us.

Small world?
I’m currently working with an intern from the States and we were chatting away about pretty much nonsense, but it turns out that his grand mother has traced his family tree back to the 1640s. He originates from a small village called Mowsley in Leicestershire (Licestershire as he pronounced it). It’s a couple of miles outside Market Harborough. No more than 12 miles from Corby.
Isn’t it a small world?

Tired
Not sure what it is but i've been getting increasingly more and more tired over the past few months. I think old age has finally caught up on me.
- I'm taking longer to get out of bed in the morning.
- I'm taking longer to recover from Saturday's games (without specific injuries it's Wednesday some times)
- I'm beginning to get hangovers
I've been invited out for beers with my old team tonight but sensible me is heading off home straight after work. It'll be nice though, i'll be cooking for April plus i'll see if I can rent Pans Labyrinth as I didn't get a chance to see it in the cinema.
