Well that's a nice little surprise

We got ourselves a BA Amex card about 3 years ago to pay for all our spending, it meant we could earn points to help us save money flights to Australia.  In practice there are never flights available for the times of year we are able to take off so it's been more or less useless.  Over that period we amassed a fair amount of points (120,000) so not to be sneezed at. I had a message from them saying that we'd lose the points due to inactivity so had a little look around to see what I could do with them.  Turns out I can convert them to nectar points.  Once converted into real money it's around £610!  Well that's a turn up for the books.  All tax free.

New term, new heights

Flo is now 1.26cm and Arthur is 1.11cm tall.  Flo is 6 and 11 months old and the average 7 year old is 121cm!  Arthur is 4 and 3 months which is 9cm taller than a 4 year old and 2 cm taller than an average 5 year old!  Really not sure where this height is coming from.  Certainly not me!

Fish pie

Made my first fish pie today. Pretty decent attempt.

Another record

New 100m swim record today, 15 seconds slower than my best 500m though.

Very nearly finished

We're almost finished our d&d game.  We've got a 2 week break (I think we're running a two week one shot cyber punk) before coming back to d&d.  After that we're going to have a one shot d&d game so our gm can practise the one shot he wants to run at a games con he's going to then we'll start the next official d&d campaign.

Last night

Waitrose smash burgers.  Mince and bone marrow.

45

Feels strange having to type 45 into the exercise machine.  Urgh.

New boots

My new rugby boots finally turned up today.  3 days before my next game.  They should have arrived last week but for some reason took ages to arrive.  My last pair fell apart mid game back in Easter.

First day of term

First Day of term for the kids today after a very long summer holiday.  7.5 weeks off!  Grr!  Now to get back to a nice solid routine.

Tuesday 3 September 2024

Why now?

I finally got round to fully updating my character this afternoon for the d&d session later but my character is all online these days and their website is currently down!  FFS!  Come on guys.  Don't they know I need to memorise some new spells?

More rugby

I got a message late last night asking if I was available to play rugby on Saturday.  I was supposed to be taking Flo to a nerf gun party (it's all we do) which I would actually have liked to have gone to but I can't turn the chance of a game.  Not at my age.

I also did a training session on teaching kids to play tag rugby on Wednesday, that was fun, although it was very hot so sweated loads. I would have been playing actual touch rugby over in Chiddingstone if I wasn't doing that so i'd have got a sweat on anyway.

Start of the rugby season

We were up and out of the house at 9 on Sunday as the rugby season has started and i'm heading up the under 6s (and 5s).  Flo has gone up to the u7s so i'm staying down in the 6's as Arthur can now join seeing as he's just about to start reception.  A few novis new coaches but a friend helped out and I think everyone had fun.

After that we all went to Tonbridge park for the reception's first meet of the new year.

Best birthday present

I managed to escape to the pub again on Sunday to watch the Utd vs Liverpool game.  That was a great birthday present! 0-3!

Birthday no 45

I turned 45 on Saturday.  Woo hoo!  What did I end up doing?  Not much.  I cooked some mackerel and fried potatoes for breakfast then took Arthur shopping, we went to Sainsbury's instead of Waitrose for a change.  Not as bad as I remember.  April had to head down to Camber for one of Flo's friend's birthday parties.  I had to hang around till the afternoon for one of Arthur's friend's birthdays.

When April got back I managed to sneak out for a couple of pints which were paid for by a couple of friends but that was about it.

What did I get?  Some new pots and pans (which we had started using already).  A signed cookbook from a restaurant we went to in Weymouth.  A new fancy chopping board (which hasn't arrived yet), 6 fancy bottles of white wine from Steve.  I think that's about it.

Good job I don't need my bag today

Good progress

Hopefully they'll get it finished by the end of the day.

Plastering done

The builders were here yesterday and plastered the hallway.  They're back again today to add some wood panelling.  Not sure what it will look like but April is confident.

Wednesday 28 August 2024

We did it!

We finally completed Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden last night.  It was good fun.  I tested out my new dice too but the function room above the pub was too dark so couldn't read the numbers!  Doh!

Another day, another record

I beat my 500m swim record by 13 seconds this morning.  11min15s!

That's nearly twice as fast.

Tuesday 27 August 2024

Cheeky cat

She's lucky I spotted her tail going in there.  I was about to shut the cupboard door!

Gig cancelled

We were supposed to be out for a gig last Thursday so seeing as we still had a baby sitter booked we went out locally instead.  We tried the new wine bar in town, followed by another couple of pubs ending up at my local The Chequers.  Urgh.

Saturday boys day in Hastings

A bunch of the Tonbridge lads headed down to Hastings on the train this Saturday so we had a little pub crawl. We got a little wet playing crazy golf but had a good laugh none the same.

What to get yourself for your birthday

When you already have everything?  More dice!  Look at these beauts!  They weigh a good chunk, I wonder how they get the colour through the middle of each of them.  My next session is today so will be able to give them their first run out.

Best swim time

The pool was dead this morning and I had a lane to myself. I ended up beating my best 500m pool time again.  11m34s.  To celebrate i've created a new chart.

Here's the old one

Wednesday 21 August 2024

Finished (or nearly)

We beat the big bad in our d&d game last night.  There's a few bits and pieces that we need to tidy up but we're pretty much done with the campaign.  That's 11 months in the making.  We're all keeping our characters and moving onto the latest published campaign soon.  Vecna: Eve of Ruin. I'm now level 10.  The highest i've ever been using the same character from scratch.

Lost my earbuds last night

I lost my ear buds last night.  Pretty sure I just put them in my pocket before going to the pub after the d&d session, but last known location is just before the pub.  The landlord hasn't seen them so i've bitten the bullet and bought a new pair.  They should arrive tomorrow.  I was going to get the new pro version (Samsung) but that was over £200.  I liked the previous version so just bought the pro version of my old set.

Hallway to finally get finished.

After getting the extension a year and a half ago we are finally getting round to making good the hallway.

When we blocked up the wall we didn't get the guys to make good, in hindsight we should have paid them a little extra to do that too but in the end we just wanted our house back.  Anyway, we've now got someone coming round tomorrow to sort that out.  Not entirely sure what April's got the guy doing but am sure it will look great once painted.

P.S. Please ignore the 24 bottles of wine in the hallway.

Other things we need doing with the house...
  • Re do the downstair loo
  • Change door knobs on the kitchen furniture
  • Turn the small box room upstairs into a shower room when the kids get a bit older
  • Re pave the driveway
  • Referb the front windows
  • Repoint the front of the house
  • Referb the shed / get new shed
  • Referb the front room

Air con installed

The guys have been back again today, yesterday they put a blower unit each in the kids bedrooms, today they've done our bedroom.  Now they just need to install the big aircon unit to the side of the house.

Do you ever get that feeling that you're being watched

Another trip to the beach

Weymouth old harbour

Weymouth Old Harbour is really nice

First trip to the fair

Teaching the kids to gamble

Weymouth beach was rammed

The kids did not enjoy this one

Chesil beach

Chesil beach was pretty close to wear we stayed so took Flo's kite out for it's maiden voyage.  I've never done it before but it was surprisingly easy.
